Marina is an established performing artist, community musician, project manager and music educator; with a passion for promoting well-being for individuals and communities through participation in music.
As a performer, Marina fronts critically acclaimed band Sparrow. As a multi-instrumentalist tutor and music leader, Marina teaches guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, vocals and music production technology in diverse community and educational settings.
After qualifying to teach in 2011 with a PGCE from University of Brighton, Marina trained on the prestigious Higher Education programme in Music Workshop Skills at Goldsmiths College, University of London.
Since 2008 Marina has has taught music in Further Education on behalf of Dv8, Varndean College and Northbrook College and has delivered many diverse music projects for young people in challenging circumstances on behalf of AudioActive, Rhythmix, CM and Surrey Arts. Marina led singing for mental health and singing for COPD groups to support research into the health benefits of community singing through the Sidney De Haan Research Centre for Arts and Health at Canterbury Christ Church University from 2015 to 2018. Marina has led music workshops at The Hellingly Centre forensic medium secure unit since 2017. Marina provides training and mentorship for music and arts leaders, notably as Course Leader of the Music Leader Training programme for CM from 2012 to 2015 and through training new music leaders in healthcare through Rhythmix and Wishing Well since 2016.
On behalf of Wishing Well, Marina now facilitates interactive music sessions in hospitals for children and for people living with dementia in addition to training new practitioners. On behalf of AudioActive, Marina now provides music mentorship and leads music programmes online and in person for young people in challenging circumstances. Marina currently leads community singing for well-being groups for Resonate and for Freedom Leisure. Marina is co-founder and creative director of music programmes at Resonate.
